MODERN ART & DESIGN AUCTION
October 20, 2019
LAMA held its auction of Modern Art & Design Auction on Sunday, October 20, 2019.
You may have noticed some changes to the first few pages of our auction catalogue—let me explain. LAMA has always aimed to be a resource for the Los Angeles arts community. We serve as a place to get up close and personal with fine art and design, discover unfamiliar artists and designers, and even learn some Los Angeles art history. As we’ve created a welcoming in-person experience, we want to extend this spirit digitally.
With this in mind, we are introducing an online-only portion to our auction. This section is aimed at those of you just starting your collections as an introduction to the auction process, which can be opaque at times. With a small selection of curated works by LAMA mainstays, the first 53 lots of the auction will be open to bidding through LAMA’s proprietary app the day that the lots are posted online, up through the day of the auction. Bidding on the auction block will start at lot 54, and proceed in numerical order from there.
As always, we are pleased to offer an amazing group of lots, including fresh to the market pieces by Sturtevant, Mary Corse, and Ken Price, all of whom have held major retrospectives at Los Angeles institutions in the last ten years. Other top fine art lots include works by Judy Chicago, John Baldessari, Roy Lichtenstein, and Ed Moses. Design highlights include a monumental carpet by Swedish textile artist, Marianne Richter, an iconic Sam Maloof rocking chair, and a group of Billy Haines pieces from the late ‘40s and early ‘50s.
Whether you’re a long-time client or a first-time buyer, remember, we are here to help! If you have any questions about the online portion, or are ready to leap into phone bidding, we will gladly walk you through the process.
